Using time-varying transition probabilities in Markov switching processes to adjust US fiscal policy for asset prices

This paper tests for nonlinear effects of asset prices on the US fiscal policy. By modeling government spending and taxes as time-varying transition probability Markovian processes (TVPMS), we find that taxes significantly adjust in a nonlinear fashion to asset prices. In particular, taxes respond to housing and (to a smaller extent) to stock price changes during normal times. However, at periods characterized by high financial volatility, government taxation only counteracts stock market developments (and not the dynamics of the housing sector). Short range charge/orbital ordering in La1−xSrxMn1−zBzO3 (B = Cu,Zn) manganites

We have measured the reflectivity spectra of La1−x SrxMn1−zBzO3 (B = Cu, Zn; 0.17 x 0.30; 0 z 0.10) manganites over wide frequency (100–4000 cm −1 )a nd temperature (80–300 K) ranges. Besides the previously observed infrared active modes or mode pairs at about 160 cm −1 (external mode), 350 cm −1 (bond bending mode) and 590 cm −1 (bond stretching mode), we have clearly observed two additional phonon modes at about 645 and 720 cm −1 below the temperature T1 (T1 < TC), which coincides with the phase transition temperature when the system transforms from ferromagnetic metallic into a ferromagnetic insulator state. Magnetic properties of quasi-2D antiferromagnet {N(n-C5H11)4[MnIIFeIII(ox)3]}∞ below Néel temperature: revisited

Abstract Magnetic measurements of {N(n-C 5 H 11 ) 4 [Mn II Fe III (ox) 3 ]} ∞ were carried out in the 5–300 K temperature range under different applied magnetic fields up to 50 kOe with zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) modes. The FC and ZFC χ ( T ) plots exhibited a significantly large bifurcation below the transition temperature, which was traceable even at 50 kOe of applied magnetic field. The bifurcation temperature was found to be magnetic field dependent for the lower range of magnetic fields, which can be represented by a polynomial of magnetic field. During the transition between warm-up and competition there is a change in core, muscle and (eventually) skin temperature that may affect swimming performance. We have aimed to assess skin temperature evolution during transition phases of different durations before a typical front crawl effort and to investigate its relationship with performance. Our objective was to determine the effects of a polyphenol-enriched cocoa extract (PCE) on myocardial postischemic alterations in normotensive (Wistar rats, W) and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Isolated hearts were submitted to 110 min of perfusion or 20 min stabilization, 30 min global ischemia, and 60 min reperfusion (R). Other hearts were treated with PCE at the onset of R. Abstract Altered insulin signaling and insulin resistance are considered the link between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and metabolic syndrome. Here, by using an in vitro and an in vivo model, we investigated the relationship between these disorders focusing on neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction and mitophagy. In vitro Aβ insult induced the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP), mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) loss, and apoptosis while insulin addition ameliorated these dysfunctions. We investigated whether low-pressure reperfusion may attenuate postischemic contractile dysfunction, limits necrosis and apoptosis after a prolonged hypothermic ischemia, and inhibits mitochondrial permeability transition-pore (MPTP) opening. Isolated rats hearts ( n = 72) were exposed to 8 h of cold ischemia and assigned to the following groups: 1) reperfusion with low pressure (LP = 70 cmH2O) and 2) reperfusion with normal pressure (NP = 100 cmH2O). We sought to clarify how mitochondria- and NADPH oxidase (Nox)-derived reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to nitrate tolerance and nitroglycerin-induced ED. Nitric Oxide Mediates Natural Polyphenol-induced Bcl-2 Down-regulation and Activation of Cell Death in Metastatic B16 Melanoma

Intravenous administration to mice of trans-pterostilbene (t-PTER; 3,5-dimethoxy-4'-hydroxystilbene) and quercetin (QUER; 3,3',4',5,6-pentahydroxyflavone), two structurally related and naturally occurring small polyphenols, inhibits metastatic growth of highly malignant B16 melanoma F10 (B16M-F10) cells. t-PTER and QUER inhibit bcl-2 expression in metastatic cells, which sensitizes them to vascular endothelium-induced cytotoxicity.
